After 12 years, four albums and a score of highly popular and visible songs, My Chemical Romance called it quits Friday (March 22), according to a post on the band’s website.
“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing,” read the post. “We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure. – My Chemical Romance”
I was quite surprised to hear the news that MCR had broken up after 12 years of making music. I was at work listening to my favourite radio station when one of the DJs mentioned it and then played “Ghost of You” from their “1st album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” (his words not mine); I’ll forgive him considering it was their real “first” mainstream success.
I remember when I first heard MCR, it was just a random song that a friend had sent me and said that I might like. I went from that first song to finding all of their singles (this was in the Three Cheers era) and from that day on I became a fan. When The Black Parade came out I was in love, it was such an amazing concept album and will always have great memories especially considering one of my dad’s favourite songs was “Cancer” which reminded him of my aunt who had suffered and succumbed to the disease when I was a child; my dad also passed away from cancer in late 2007, and I tried to have the song played at his memorial but unfortunately I was the only one (still living) who understood why my father wanted it played so I was vetoed out.
Anyways, thanks MCR for the great memories and I wish you the best.
A wonderful cause to be supported guys! Great work!
